From the idea to the application to project completion

The LWL-Kulturstiftung supports supra-local, interdisciplinary or interdisciplinary cultural projects in the Westphalia-Lippe region.
All information on our funding opportunities, processes and services is outlined here.

Funding criteria

The LWL-Kulturstiftung is open to all areas of culture: visual arts, theater, dance, music, film, literature and regional studies as well as projects in museums and in the preservation of archives and monuments.

Regional
Reference

A clear reference to or relevance for Westfalen-Lippe is the basis for funding in accordance with the foundation’s purpose.

Cultural
Added value

In terms of content and concept, the projects enrich the existing cultural offering and complement it with new impulses or contemporary formats.

Supra-local orientation

Events at various locations in Westphalia-Lippe or a special content design develop the greatest possible appeal in the region.

Network character

In order to strengthen the region’s cultural network and make the projects as visible as possible, collaborations should be entered into with various cultural stakeholders.

Public appeal

The projects are of high artistic quality and reach a wider audience interested in culture with their formats and events.

Time limit

Projects must take place within a clearly defined period of time. This includes the concept, implementation and follow-up phases. Temporary start-up funding for the development of model cultural offerings is also possible. Permanent (institutional) funding is not envisaged.

Funding process

Step 1:
Advice

Before submitting an application, a telephone or personal consultation with the foundation team is recommended. An initial written project outline can serve as a basis for discussion (and, if already available, an initial cost and financing plan). In this way, any necessary sharpening of the profile or focus in terms of content can be included in the development of the application. Early involvement is advisable – especially for extensive and long-term projects.

Step 2:
Application

The application includes the completed application form as well as a cost and financing plan. These documents can be supplemented with further information on the project (e.g. detailed project description, timetable or details on project partnerships). All documents must be submitted on time, preferably by e-mail (alternatively also by post) by February 28 or August 31 by 11:59 pm.

Step 3:
Board of Trustees decision

The Board of Trustees meets twice a year according to the application deadlines, usually in May/June and November/December. At these meetings, the Board of Trustees makes a decision on every application received in full and on time. The meetings are not open to the public.

Step 4:
Acceptance/rejection letter

All project sponsors will receive written notification of the Board of Trustees’ decision following the meeting.

Step 5:
Funding agreement

All letters of acceptance are accompanied by two funding agreements as well as the project application and the General Terms and Conditions of Contract (GTCC). One signed copy of the funding contract must be returned to the LWL-Kulturstiftung. The other documents remain with the project managers.

Step 6:
Project implementation

The funding approval is there, now you can get started. Everything you need to know about finance and communication is summarized in the funding agreement and the GTC.

Step 7:
Project completion

Proof of use must be submitted to the LWL-Kulturstiftung no later than six months after the end of the project. This consists of an informal written statement (approx. 1 DIN A4 page), a final invoice and, if applicable, (digital) copies of supporting documents.
