Theme year 2028: "AI and culture"
LWL-Kulturstiftung plans new funding focus
After the successful anniversary year 1250 Jahre Westfalen the LWL-Kulturstiftung is now preparing its next funding focus – under the working title “AI and Culture”. The foundation is once again addressing socially relevant and topical issues: A themed year on artificial intelligence with cultural projects from all sectors is planned for 2028. The first application deadline for the new funding priority is August 31, 2026, and the details of the content are currently being worked out. Further information will follow.
The idea for “AI and culture” was inspired by the Westphalian Culture Conference of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe 2025, which was also dedicated to this topic. There, Dr. Barbara Rüschoff-Parzinger, member of the board of the LWL-Kulturstiftung and head of the LWL cultural department, emphasized:
“It’s important that we address fears, but at the same time don’t forget the joy: AI can enrich us, but only if we understand it and shape it ourselves.”
The LWL-Kulturstiftung takes up these discussions about the opportunities and risks, challenges and future possibilities of AI and aims to translate them into practical cultural work
