The Sauerland Museum is taking the 175th anniversary of the IHK Arnsberg, Hellweg-Sauerland as an opportunity to look back on 200 years of industrial history in the region. In the meantime, it has developed into part of the strongest industrial region in North Rhine-Westphalia. The exhibition tells this story from beginnings with obstacles, to distribution channels within walking distance, to the post-war industrial boom, in which the special Sauerland corporate culture with its medium-sized family businesses asserted itself on the world market.
The exhibition showcases exciting finds from 200 years of industrialization with unique artefacts from the history of local companies and about the people who worked there. These include outstanding developments, pioneering products and entertaining documents, photos and media on work, everyday life and the cultural history of the economy. It also looks at the effects of current crises and future developments in the economy and work as central pillars of our social coexistence.
