Documentary film on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Commission for Dialect and Name Research Westphalia
In cooperation with LWL Media Center for Westphalia
Does anyone still speak Low German?” This is the question asked by presenter Anja, who sets off on a journey across Westphalia-Lippe in an old VW bus. “Langs den Patt. A search for traces in the Westphalian linguistic landscape” is the title of the 45-minute documentary film produced by the Commission for Dialect and Name Research in Westphalia together with the LWL Media Center for Westphalia. In numerous encounters, Anja learns a lot about language loss, language transmission and language diversity. The journey takes her from Mindener Land in the north to Siegerland in the south. What does their mother tongue, Low German, mean to them? What does it mean to them when their language dies out?
