1.6 million euros for 15 projects in Westphalia-Lippe

Stage programs with theater, music, literature and performances as well as museum projects make up the new funding program of the LWL-Kulturstiftung, which comprises a total of 15 cultural projects in Westphalia-Lippe. Creative artists from the region will receive 1.6 million euros.

The next application deadline for the upcoming funding program is 28 February for projects that will start in the middle of the year at the earliest.

From May to November, four cultural festivals present theater, electronic music, puppet theater and light art in the Westphalian Ruhr area and the Hellweg region. Large and small stages, theaters and cultural institutions are the venues for five series of events in which new spaces also become places of cultural encounters. Six museum projects are also included in the program, including three large, long-term projects by LWL institutions that are based on resolutions passed by the Landscape Committee.

A total of 43 applications were submitted to the Board of Trustees for discussion at the last meeting, continuing the trend of increasing application numbers from previous funding rounds.

“Even without a specific focus, we are noticing a great deal of interest – because the cultural scene wants to continue to contribute its perspectives to our society despite financial difficulties at local, state and federal level,” says Dr. Barbara Rüschoff-Parzinger, LWL Head of Cultural Affairs and Board Member of the LWL-Kulturstiftung. The funding statistics of the LWL-Kulturstiftung should be read as a reflection of a general cultural policy development, which not only shows the financial pressure, but is also an expression of the strength and resilience of those working in the cultural sector.
