The LWL-Kulturstiftung has been supporting cultural projects in Westphalia-Lippe since 2004.

Their commitment follows the foundation’s purpose and is guided by the foundation’s committees.

Establishment of the LWL-Kulturstiftung

Founded at the end of 2003 by the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) under the name "Kulturstiftung Westfalen-Lippe" as an independent private foundation under civil law based in Münster, the foundation has been operating under the name "LWL-Kulturstiftung" since 2007.

In 2002, the LWL decided to sell its shareholdings in the regional utility companies. The proceeds from the sale were used, among other things, to provide the capital stock for the “Kulturstiftung Westfalen-Lippe” (Westphalia-Lippe Cultural Foundation), which has been growing steadily since then through endowments and donations. The Westfälisch-Lippische Vermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft (WLV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the LWL, is responsible for the commercial administration of the LWL-Kulturstiftung.

With the establishment of the foundation, the LWL pursued the goal of working even more strongly than before in and for the cultural scene in Westphalia-Lippe. By promoting cultural projects and offerings, the proceeds from the assets thus flow indirectly back into the region.
