Founded in 1915, the Westfälischer Heimatbund e. V. (WHB) is now the umbrella organization for around 600 local history, civic and cultural associations as well as 700 volunteer local history preservationists in Westphalia. The anniversary year is the occasion for an extensive survey and critical examination of the history of the Westphalian Heimat movement. An exhibition, two publications and digital communication formats provide insights into the work and self-image of the WHB and the heritage associations, shed light on and discuss the concept of heritage then and now and ask what is Westphalian in the region.
