From fall 2026, the LWL Museum Office wants to test new funding and development opportunities for museums in rural and post-industrial areas and strengthen cross-institutional cooperation as part of the pilot project "Strengthening the relevance of museums in times of crisis". Twelve partner museums are involved in the first two-year initiation phase, which aim to actively shape social change and strengthen the relevance of museums through new formats.
