When initiatives came together in the 1980s to explore women’s history, they were breaking new ground. Male protagonists dominated both historical and local heritage societies as well as public perception. Dr. Bärbel Sunderbrink presents the beginnings of “Frauengeschichtsladen Lippe e.V.,” which pioneered innovative historical research in the region. The establishment of a women’s archive played just as important a role as projects on everyday history, about which Christel Grote and Gesine Niebuhr offer insights as eyewitnesses.
