Today, 90 percent of all goods traded between continents are transported on container ships. Many of the things we own – be it a smartphone, a pair of jeans or a food processor – have already been in a container at some point. This means that the global box also plays an important role in our everyday lives.
The exhibition follows the traces of containers in all areas of life. It shows how transport containers have radically simplified and accelerated international trade, but also sheds light on the darker side of this dynamic development. It asks whether the globalization of the world economy has perhaps now passed its peak and the international flow of goods is decreasing again, which is a burning issue in view of the current customs debates.
